Tribute to Melinda

Melinda Davis :
4.17.55 – 10.25.08

My Sweetheart, my love, the mother of my children, the grandmother of our grand-babies... took her last breaths on earth this morning and went into the presence of the Lord.

After being told on September 15th she only had a few weeks to live, she decided to spend her last days by her husband’s side helping to win souls, rescue lives and exalt Christ in Galveston following the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. In spite of her horrific pain, she said “I want to go to Galveston”. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

She was in agonizing pain. Her liver was swollen with cancer. Ninety percent of her blood cells were saturated with cancer. Her bones were full of lytic lesions. Her cell counts were so low that any infection could kill her within hours. Nevertheless, she wanted to go fulfill her destiny and the purpose for which she was on this planet. If she was going to go down, she would go down fighting... not by fighting with someone, but by fighting FOR someone. She fought for her life and she fought for the lives of those whom she knew were in crisis.

During her last month of life, Melinda showed what it means to live a “no regrets” life. She spent time with her family and she spent time doing her ministry. Just by setting an example, she inspired multiplied others to serve Christ, by serving others in need. In her time of crisis, she reached out to help someone else in crisis. That’s just who Melinda Ann Davis was. She was selfless.

What I, as her husband, am so grateful for is that now all of you... and thousands of others around the world who have learned of her courage and grace under fire, have gotten to see the woman whom I have always known. Melinda temporarily leaves behind, an honored husband, twin daughters & their husbands, and four grandchildren with another child on the way.

Our hearts are broken, but will be mended by the love we shared with her and by our Heavenly Father’s eternal love for us.

“To Live is Christ... to Die is Gain.” Melinda didn’t lose her battle with cancer, she won her battle with life.

Her Homegoing Celebration was Wednesday October 29th, 2pm at Fellowship of the Woodlands Chapel, One Fellowship Dr The Woodlands, TX 77384. (281) 367-1900. The viewing is Tuesday at the same location, 5-8pm.
