While we cannot claim to speak for everyone in the America who calls themselves a Christian, we do feel confident of speaking on the behalf of millions of true Christians in America who are saddened by those blaming all Muslims and Arabs for the tragic bombings of the world trade center and the Pentagon in Washington DC. Furthermore we want to apologize to all Muslim people for the horrible and yes even unforgivable acts perpetrated through the centuries upon Muslim people by those who "called themselves Christians". The reason we say those who "called" themselves Christians is because it is hard for a true follower of the teachings of Jesus (Essa) to accept that anyone in His name, of all people, would commit crimes of murder, or even have feelings of hatred toward another person regardless of race, religion, or creed. Why you may ask? Anyone who takes time to read the history and words of Essa (Jesus) in the Injeel could quickly tell that hatred of any kind is the exact opposite of all the teachings of Jesus (Essa). His sayings include: "Love your neighbor as yourself", "Bless those who curse you", "Love them who despitefully use you". Surely those who would twist such teachings of love into a message of hate must have done so by a satanically inspired plan of deception aimed at the ignorant. The prophet Hosea said in the Holy Scriptures, "People are destroyed for a lack of knowledge." In light of what Allah says about "destruction" coming from the "lack of knowledge", let us examine what Muslims and Christians believe in common and how a Muslim can know the difference between a TRUE CHRISTIAN and a counterfeit. For centuries there has been a sense of confrontation between Muslims and Christians. This is sad because Muslims and Christians have very much in common. For instance, we agree on Allah, heaven, hell, angels, the resurrection and judgment. We agree on the importance of absolute submission to God. We agree that people can be possessed by demons. We agree that Allah speaks to man through prophets. We agree on many things concerning Essa (Jesus), that he was miraculously born of a virgin, that he was a prophet, and that he performed many miracles. We are in agreement in condemning immorality, drunkenness, drug abuse and abortion. We agree that Allah created the world and all mankind, that he is all-powerful. We also agree on the importance of prayer, almsgiving and fasting. It is true there are some important areas of disagreement in spiritual understanding, but some of these are really misunderstandings. We have seen the futility of debates, arguments, and confrontation. Perhaps it is time for a new approach. Since both Muslims and Christians believe so strongly in prayer, perhaps we can use this as a bridge to create an realm of friendship instead of hostility. My personal experience with Muslim people has found them to be wonderfully friendly people who are seeking Allah, and not the evil people with hatred and murder in their hearts as often stereotyped by the media. As well the word "Christian" often brings to a Muslim's mind images of immorality, drinking, and violence as portrayed by the movie industry. To illustrate the point of misunderstanding, there is the subject of the Trinity. Many Muslims seem to believe that Christians worship three Gods, when in fact this very thought is totally repugnant to Christians. They tenaciously believe in one Allah and only one. The Injeel says, in Mark 12:29 that the first commandment is "The Lord our God (Allah) is one." How can a Muslim tell who is a true Christian? Just as there is counterfeit money and counterfeit jewelry, there are counterfeit Christians. Here is what a true Christians will believe according to the Injeel. 1. People of all religions are guilty of sin. The prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 64:5,6 "How then can we be saved? All of us have become like one who is unclean and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags." The Apostle Paul wrote in Roman 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Allah) Every honest person will have to admit that we as humans are prone to disobedience against Allah and His Holy word. This is sin. 2. So the true Christian sees Essa not only as just a prophet or messiah, but also as Savior. And that confession of sin is necessary for forgiveness. In 1 John 1:9 we read, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." The Torah describes Allah's plan for forgiveness of man's sin. It was through the shedding of blood, by animal sacrifices. Abraham, Moses and all the Prophets offered such sacrifices. However these sacrifices were imperfect animals, which had to be offered again and again. Then in Hebrews 9:12 we read that Essa became the perfect sacrifice thus ending the need for animals. "He entered the Most Holy place once for all, by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. 3. A true Christian is certain of his forgiveness by Allah. Can a person be sure of his salvation while still on the earth? The true Christian would emphatically say yes. This is possible because man's eternal destiny is not decided by his good or bad deeds. The Holy scriptures instruct Christians to do good works And a true Christian certainly will, however eternal salvation comes only by pleasing and obeying Allah and His holy word. The Holy Scriptures say in Ephesians 2:8 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith... And this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God (Allah)." The most quoted scripture on eternal salvation is found in the Injeel, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16) 4. A true Christian loves Muslims. To most Muslims this may be a startling statement. But there is a strong basis for this statement. We have tried to define for you what a true Christian is as opposed to a counterfeit, and we have found that he is a believer and follower of Essa (Jesus). Essa sacrificed his life on the cross because he loved all mankind including Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus and everyone. The Apostle John explains the great depth of Allah's love in 1 John 4:9-16 "This is how God (Allah) showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him: not that we loved God (Allah), but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." So if Essa (Jesus) loves Muslims, then a true follower of Essa will also love Muslims. Since both Muslims and Christians believe in the one Allah, and so strongly in prayer, let us pray for one another and even with one another. Here's a prayer to begin a new understanding. Prayer: Oh merciful, compassionate and loving Allah, forgive us for our sins of misunderstanding and prejudice. Fill our hearts with your love and show us the true way back to Yourself, and give us eternal life. Amen To learn much more about how to know what a real Christian is and believes read the Injeel.
